SENDING HOPE

Connecting again with communities in local Libraries this school holidays is so enjoyable. We have missed the wonderful experience of being able to gather around books in Melbourne for several winter holidays now. Finally families can reconnect in these fabulous resource centres again and share their interests of reading, stories and discovering books.

It was magic to share this rewarding experience today for the first workshop at the Doveton Library Holiday Winter Program. Enthusiastic families and young readers joined me during the story time session as we read “Salih” and made connections to the difficulties and challenges faced by so many refugee families across the globe who are in search of safety and a new home. This week is Refugee Week 2022 and the theme for this year is ‘Healing’. It is the perfect time to share and promote stories that raise awareness for so many who need support and connectedness as we lean on each other for healing.

After sharing my creative illustration processes, the children began creating special envelopes of ‘HOPE’.

Some students enjoyed using the bird templates from the book and others made creative connections to their own imagery of hope as they illustrated their own unique envelopes to send to their friends and family.

A special thank you to Doveton Libraries at Casey Cardinia Libraries for inviting me to your story time Holiday Program. It was such a warm morning with interested and creative readers.
